What To Do If You’re Injured at Work
What to Do If You're Injured at Work – Take Action Immediately
1. SEEK MEDICAL HELP RIGHT AWAY.
Your health trumps everything else – and could worsen if you fail to seek medical attention. Employers typically direct medical treatment in accepted claims and will often send employees to urgent care facilities or the emergency department after an accident. If possible, ask your employer to send you to their usual medical provider. If they refuse, get medical attention on your own as soon as possible. Remember to inform your medical provider that your injury is work-related and explain exactly how and when your injury occurred. The medical record from this visit may be the most important medical record in your case.
2. Notify Your Employer Immediately. Report Your Injury in Writing within 30 days.
As soon as safely possible after your workplace injury, report what happened to your employer. If you can report it to your supervisor or the business owner, do so immediately on your own or through someone else. If you cannot reach your supervisor or the owner, report your injury to a co-worker. Do not delay medical treatment. But report what happened to your employer as soon as you safely can. Finally, North Carolina requires that you report your injury to your employer in writing within 30 days - do this as soon as possible after your injury.
